WITHERS Great Rollright or Burmington, Warwickshire
« on: Sunday 29 March 15 17:28 BST (UK) »
My husbands GGG Grandfather Richard Withers lived to be over a hundred apparently born 1807 Burmington, Warwickshire, dieing 1909 Great rollright.
He appears to reside in Gt Rollright much of his life.
There does not appear to be a christening in Burmington so I am hoping there's some records in Gt Rollright.

The only records I do have are the census and Newspaper reports of his centenary, for some reason the family appear under the name Widows in 1841, but Withers 1851.
Richard his wife Eliza appear 1841

I have his daughter Mary Ann marriage cert, which says he is a Shepherd.
She was born abt 1843 Great Rollright.

Any marriages, christenings or burials from Gt Rollright for the Withers would be very much appreciated.

yours hopefully Brenda :)

I cannot see any death in Oxfordshire in 1909 for that profile

His death was registered 1910 - not 1909 although if he died late December 1909 - his death would probably only be registered in the March qtr of 1910

Incredible age for those days

Thanks Carole, I did have that, I should have said.
This is a real pain, the only way of obtaining, infomation for Great Rollright is The FHG and this one is particularly expensive, cost pence to produce.
Neither Genes Reunited, Ancestry or Find my past have those records.
Grrrrrrr  :'(

Hi Brenda

The first thing may not know is The Oxfordshire Family History Society have transcribed most of the parish records to CD and they are available to buy from their web site. The society will also do a search for you for a small fee.

I have their CD for Great Rollright and it covers the following:
Bapts 1560 - 1887
Marrs 1560 - 1837
Burs 1560 - 1935

the records since then are with the incumbent at the church.

So to your search - give me a minute and I will be back hopefuly with some answers.

Some people have his parents as William & Mary as they lived and had children there at the right period.
But there is also a marriage of a John and Elizabeth Smith in Burmington in 1809, so possible parents too.

best regards Brenda
sitting fingers crossed ;D

And I can see the following burial entry

3 Feb 1910 Richard WIDDOWS of Great Rollright aged 104
                             (generally known as Richard WITHERS)

So that's that one Brenda,  but there are lots of Widdows / Withers so who else and what for records do you want looked up?
