claire.t and JJen,

Thank you both for the research.   I am extremely grateful.   Now to find when he migrated to Canada and the subsequent move to Georgia.

I was aware that he had spent 18 months in Parkhurst Prison.

For the moment

Hi

I think he was there before 1865, here is a record of his military history in America, states he enlisted 13 January 1864, discharged  25 Sept. 1865.

Looks like he died in 1932 Atlanta

Hello Claire,

His Domestic History is a little confusing as I cannot reconcile the born in Scotland age 68!!!    Although according to his discharge/medical details it is a "wonder" he survived to 68, let alone 1932.    He was actually discharged from Parkhurst Prison in July 1863 so his migration to America and then fighting in the Civil War was pretty rapid.

In some of the FamilySearch material it states that he is American, although I have looked at the naturalisation index and cannot find his name.

It looks as though I am going to have enormous fun compiling a biography for him and trying to trace the family's movements between Canada, West Virginia, Georgia and so on.

However, you have done me proud in producing the research.

For now,

Tony
