In the 1871 census he was living in St Olave, Bermondsey with his daughter Ann Rea (18).

Has Ann been found after this to rule out that he wasn't still living with her?

Hi,
I've looked for Ann Rea, but in 1871 she's 18 so I guess she may have married by 1881. I've looked her up on BMD and FindMyPast but no luck yet.
I'm researching: O'Connor, Connor, Rea, Smith, Skilton

Yes, I'll look up 1881 census for Hall & Horner to see if there is an Ann and it connects with her place/DOB.  Thanks B

The  surnames to look  for  are  Campbell  or Haslett,  also, as the  ones  you mentioned   look to be  middle  names

Look at this!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Horner_Haslett

"James Horner Haslett (January 1832 - 18 August 1905) was an Irish Conservative politician who sat in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom from 1885 to 1886. He was mayor of Belfast in 1887 and knighted in the same year.
Haslett married Annie Rea of London in 1877."

If it is the same Ann Rea, she did well for herself. There is quite a bit about him on the internet, but I can't find anything about his wife to see if it is the same Ann Rea.

Seems strange that his marriage does not appear anywhere, but on ancestry it does show a James Horner Haslett on the New Zealand electoral rolls 1853-1981 could this be the same man?

1901 census shows him living
at University Street Cromac Antim with his family and three of his sisters, his religion is said to be Presbyterian but Anna is not there

The Rea's were regular visitors to my Grandmother Mary O'Connor(Rea). I'm pretty sure that this would have been a "conversation piece" has Ann married this guy. But who knows!!

According to Debretts house of commons James Horner Haslett Knight son of the Rev Henry Haslett married Ann Rae 1877 (who died 1894) and the daughter of Thomas Rae.  You can get this online on page 67 of the 1901 edition

That was a good find, so that rules out "our" Ann Rea as she was the daughter of Joseph. It also rules out this marriage found earlier:

CAMPBELL  Robert Hall    Islington  1b 442
Haslett  James Horner     Islington  1b 442
Ledbetter  Matilda Elizabeth     Islington  1b 442
Rea  Ann     Islington  1b 442

Back to the drawing board.
