Mulraney Family Research
« on: Monday 30 March 15 20:52 BST (UK) »
This is my first post and I am looking for help in researching my ancestor.
His name was Patrick Joseph Mulraney ( sp) born abt 1844, March Co. Kildare. His parents listed on his Death Registration in the Province of British Columbia, Canada were listed as ; Father:Patrick Mulraney and Mother : Catherine Flynn.
He died March 7, 1923 in Spallumcheen, British Columbia.

He was married to Margaret (nee Ryan) and apparently they were a childless couple who immigrated to Canada abt 1880.

I have not had much luck locating any records thus far, perhaps it is the spelling and not having the Parish and Township has left me lost.

Any guidance or information would be greatly appreciated.

Leigh

Welcome.
I tried finding the name in Kildare any period and while it does exist it seems to have lots of variation and is by no means common, although it seemed to be tending to occur near the border with Offaly.

When all else failed I thought Patrick and Catherine may have died after Civil registration started so I tried the surname in each registration district of Kildare, the result was is interesting. Only one district had results.
Lots of Mulraney deaths in Edenderry which is a Registration District of Kildare and Offaly, it straddles the border.
As you will see lots of spelling variations but it does appear the most likely area to start looking.

I found a headstone in my Kildare records in Milltown, but the dates are very hard to read.

I couldn't find any baptismal for Patrick but searching Rootsireland (pay site) for children of Patrick Mulrany and Catherine Flynn gave one baptism Catherine Mulrany Ballyhegan Carbury Kildare 4 Oct 1857 Mother's surname given as Flin. A possible sibling for Patrick??
