Adoption to Isle of Man Family in 1964
« on: Tuesday 31 March 15 09:58 BST (UK) »
I'm helping a friend search for his brother who was adopted. He was born in Liverpool on the 24th July 1964 and adopted to a family who we are sure lived on the Isle of Man. His name on his birth certificate was Paul M W. He may or may not still use his given names. He may or may not still live on the island.

Paul's birth certificate states that he was adopted, with a side note saying;  "Isle of Man"

If you think you might know Paul, or you are Paul, then I would love to hear from you.

If Paul is reading this message, it might help you to know that you were once part of a set of three brothers who were all adopted. I am helping one of your two older brothers to unite you all.

Please send me a private message if you have any information.

Thank you

HG2 :)

Sorry Sarah, I should know this.  I wasn't thinking. But I don't expect him to have the same surname, although I'm hoping he might have the same given name. Thanks for editing & keeping the rest of my post.

Hi HG2

There are several topics on Rootschat about searching for adopted people.

What is most difficult is finding out his name after adoption.

One of the things your friend should do if he hasn't done so already is put your details on the GRO adoption contact register.

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register

If you also google search 'adoption contact register' you will find several other places where they can register to be contacted.

Paul may know he is adopted and may have put his name on some of these.

Your friend could also look at his own adoption file to see which organisation he was adopted through. They may have an intermediary service and be able to offer help in locating him

Hi Dawn

Yes, all what you suggest has already been done.  Just spreading ourselves further now, so as to cover every opportunity to find the two adopted brothers.  My friend has actually found his birth mother too.

Thanks for this advice.  I've also found a social worker on the island who might be able to help, so I'm trying all avenues.   :)

Thanks

what about contacting the local newspaper and seeing if they will help? maybe an advert giving brief info and a contact email?

Hi Dawnkaren & everyone who has took interest in this Isle of Man adoption.

I am pleased to tell you all that the adoptee has been found & only last week, he was united with his brother or half-brother.

This was a really interesting case of 3 adopted brothers who knew nothing of each other's existence. Two are now united & I have a good lead to the third brother! All three brother were born in Liverpool.

The media was the last idea on my list, but because adoption is such a sensitive issue, I didn't want to use it until I had tried every other route.

Thank you again to everyone who tried to help
