Beaumont
« on: Tuesday 31 March 15 22:20 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to trace the Beaumont side of my family. Ethel Beaumont b. 1915 In Chesterfield was my great grandma. I have have traced the family tree back to Thomas Beaumont b. 1780 in Yorkshire but can get no further. I'd love to know the origins of the name and any help would be much appreciated!

Origins: try a google search?

e.g. http://www.beaumontfamily.com/

Where in Yorkshire was Thomas from?  (And why are you on the Derbyshire board if he is from Yorkshire - just wondered?)

I meant origins of the family in the uk. I assume Beaumont isnt British so I wanted to see if I could find when the Beaumont name came to the uk.

All the family are Derbyshire up til then and I'm not positive that Thomas is from Yorkshire.

Treat any info on the House of Names website with a huge pinch of salt!

For a start, there is no such thing as a family crest - it is always awarded to a named individual, and used by his direct descendants (only!).

Ha! Thanks.

It is more individual people I'm interested in to be honest. There's a rumour in our family that we're  descended from Belgian horse dealers. That's the one I'd like to prove or disprove and I figure that the Beaumont line is the way to go.

Are you certain the family were from Derbyshire ??

Ethel was b Chesterfield 29 Aug 1915

her parents were William Beaumont & Mary Bond -married 29 Mar 1914 Chesterfield
from military records
William gives place of birth as LEICESTER??
He was b 12 Dec 1890
his fathr was b Mansfield Notts

1891 census 30 Baker St Leicester
Edward beaumont Head M 24 shoe finisher Mansfield Notts
Rebecca wife 23 Leicester
Joseph A son 1 Leicester
WILLIAM son 3mths Leicester
rg12 2528 124 34

and it seems Edward beaumont went by his middle name of Edward -his full name was Albert Edward beaumont b.c.1845 Sheffield Yorkshire
Although Albert edward was b Sheffield the family moved to Mansfield Notts when he was quite young

1881the family lived at  38 Newton St Mansfield Notts
Joseph Beaumont Head M 36 wife Mary 43 ALBERT E 14, William 13 and Ellen 12 -all b Sheffield

Joseph Beumont's father seems to be Joseph too
b Manchester Lancashire - they lived in Sheffield and then Mansfield Notts

1851
Grove terrace mansfield Notts
Joseph Beumont Head M 42 Machinist Manchester Lancs
Elizabeth wife 42 ashover Derbys
Ellen daughter 16 sheffield
Mary Ann daughter 13 sheffield
JOSEPH son 6 Sheffield
HO107 2124 283 60

Is this the information you have???

If so as you can see they were not b Derbyshire????

I am trying to establish where your name came from as far back as possible - and so far the furthest I have is Manchester lancs

Suz
Thornhill, Cresswell, Sisson, Harriman, Cripps, Eyre, Walter, Marson, Battison, Holmes, Bailey, Hardman, Fairhurst Noon-mainly in Derbys/Notts-but also Northampton, Oxford, Leics, Lancs-England

Oh good lord... You're right. I've been totally confused! It's been a while since I've done this and now I feel like a plonker! Lol. So no, this side of the family are NOT from Derbyshire!
