1795 Graaff-Reinet Rebellion
« on: Wednesday 01 April 15 01:52 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

My 7X great grandfather was Friedrich Carl David Gerotz (1739–1828) who was appointed as acting Landdrost by the rebels in Graaff-Reinet in February of 1795 in place of the Laddrost Maynier who was run out of the town by the rebels.

After the rebellion, its leader Adriaan van Jaarsveld and another were apparently sentenced to death and a number of other rebels were imprisoned at the Castle. All the sentences were not carried out after the Cape returned to the Dutch.

What I want to know is if anyone has any idea of where I could find out about whether or not Gerotz was one of those who was tried or not, and whether or not he got any sanction. Any other information that people have about him that I might have missed would also be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Duncan
