Yes - at least it puts this man in the age range of Arthur John Edward Andrews, who is the relative who has disappeared into limbo from Dublin, Ireland.....

Karen, on the Canada thread, says  'what makes him look Canadian?'

It's the little maple leaves sprouting out of his ears, Karen ;D Sorry...old Eric Nicol joke :D

I think this gent has money. That overcoat is perfection itself...I have a photo of King George and the Queen Mum visiting Canada sometime in the, I don't know, late 40s maybe, and his overcoat doesn't look as good as this one. If your clothes look better than the King's, you're well-heeled.

Just a thought  :)

Cheers,

Well heeled - is that what makes him Canadian?

I do agree though. If he is the man I think....still no proof....he's the son of a rather well-off Dublin stationer, same name, born 1840s.

It was Treetotal who mentioned Canada, not me ;D

I do think he has a North American look to him, though. Nothing I could put my finger on.

I wasn't suggesting that he was Canadian....I just compared it to a photo of my Uncle in Canada in the 1930s.

I may have found something. His age isn't quite right, but:

"Canada Passenger Lists, 1881-1922," index and images, FamilySearch  (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2HLS-FX9 : accessed 8 April 2015), Arthur Andrews, Sep 1910; citing Immigration, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, T-4771, Library and Archives Canada, Ottawa, Ontario.

And the image says he's a solicitor.

And NOW I have found the origin of the death record I mentioned before - a grave in Mount Jerome Cemetery in Dublin of the man I thought this picture was, Arthur John Edward Andrews.
Died 15th July 1893 aged 18.
 :-[

Which leaves me wondering if there is an Arthur Andrews that I have missed!
