Alfred Thorby Long India to England to Australia
« on: Thursday 02 April 15 03:27 BST (UK) »
I will pursue this topic in 2 sections. This first section refers to the years 1898 to 1917.

Alfred Thorby Long was born in Bombay either in 1898 or 1899. His father had the same name.
In the English Census of 1911 he is an inmate, (student), at Amplethorpe Abbey School in Yorkshire, but just under the name Thorby Long. He is noted as British subject by parentage. RG14PN29074.

On 2 October 1913 I think I have him leaving Liverpool England on the ship Afric bound for Albany Western Australia.

On 31 March 1916 he embarks from Australia to serve in WWI. Living at East Katanning W.A with Next of Kin A.T.Long. He wins the Military Medal and returns to Australia.

I am hoping that someone with research abilities in India may be able to provide any information on Alfred and the Long family in India and up to 1917 when Alfred returns to Australia with the M.M.

If I can achieve success in this section, I will progress to his life after 1917.

Thanks

Alan

Thanks to both of you.
As I said, I feel there are 2 distinct parts to this enquiry. I would like to feel confident with the first before I pursue the second.
Please keep helping !!
