I found the Thorby birth in 1901 but i think it is a different family

Why? Same unusual name, same parent names?

Just looking at the Afric passenger list from 1913: Alfred junior is travelling with Robin F Middleton. Both have the address of 8, The Walk, Warren Road, Katanning, WA

Great find!
I suppose I should look for Alfred Thorby in England in the 1901 census in case he had been sent over as a baby to stay with relatives.

A Katanning Hero

The first soldier to return to Katanning with a decorations, is Pte. Thorby Long, M.M., son of Mr A.T.Long, of "Chowinghie " Nyafoing.  Pte. Long, who was only 17 when he enlisted, had two years active service before his health broke down, the Dispatch in which he was mentioned, laid special stress on his bravery whilst under fire. He was awarded the Military Medal for " Valor in the Field."
The particular action being dispatch running seven days and nights under fire, and bravery shown under trying circumstances.

Perhaps I am missing something ??!!

But you and others are filling in the picture!

Again Thanks!

I think Robin F Middleton could be his half brother.

There was a Robin Fitzpatrick Middleton aged 27 who married Margaret Lloyd in Tottenham. London in October 1915. He gave his father's name as Charles James Middleton, coffee planter.

Fitzpatrick was the maiden name of Henry Tewkesbury Goodfellow's wife Grace (Edith's mother).

Edith Long is in the 1901 census in Bedford, visiting a retired farmer named John Edwards and his family. She is listed as aged 36 born Glastonbury ( I'm not sure that's right but her family was from that area. Per the 1871 census Edith Goodfellow was born in Marylebone, London circa 1861).

She has 3 children with her:

Franklin H Middleton 17 born India, Coorg South
Robin C P Middleton 13 born India do
Jack T Long 2 Born India, Bombay
