It is also a saint's name.

That would fit with a family whose members included Alban and Ignatius amongst others plus a bishop and at least one nun :)

Thank you to everyone who helped with this puzzle.

I think it has been solved.  I just need to find the one piece of information that confirms Den(n)is and Dionysius were indeed one and the same before I ask for this topic to be marked as completed.

I believe the only church in England called St Dionysius is at Market Harborough. Perhaps a link?

Hi Connie.

I have been looking at the newspaper reports and the other person noted with Dennis is
a Edward Cliff (a currier) aged 22 who was given 10 years transportation, as he had a
previous conviction.

Dennis was a servant of Alderman Williams who in 1841 was living in Sheep St with 2 sons.

Maybe a apprentice record is available at N.R.O.

A likely suspect in the 1841 census in Northampton a currier app - ancestry have transcribed him as Dinah Collendge age 20 apprentice.
