I am interested in knowing what the book has to say about Simon McLeod (1826-1905).  I think he came from Parkhill Ross-shire, Scotland and settled in Middlesex Co., Ontario.  He was Reeve of Parkhill, Ontario.  I believe he arrived before 1863.  I would like to know if possible which ship he arrived on and ports.  His wife's name was Ellen or Helen Clark, does she appear in the book too?

There is a John McLeod (1819-?) who also settled in Middlesex Co., Ontario he married Mary Gilchrist in Lobo, Ontario.  Does the book indicate when he arrived in Canada, who his parents are, and which ship or ports involved?  I believe he is from Isle of Skye and the M.P. Charles Grant (Lord Glenelg) may have been involved in his passage.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Passenger Lists to Canada prior to 1865 are few and far between.

There was a Simon McLeod (aged 41 years)  born 1826 arriving 1867 on the Austrian arriving Quebec.

Unless he went back and forward, probably not your man.  :-\

Strange ........

1881 census Middlesex North.

Simon McLeod   55
Ellen McLeod   40
Catherine McLeod   17
Robert D. McLeod   3

Yet the headstone inscription on FIND A GRAVE says Ellen Clark McLeod died 5 August 1874  :-\

Hi Sandra, I found that information but alas the Simon McLeod born in 1826 became a Councillor for 2-3 years and then Reeve of Parkhill, Ontario in 1876.  He married twice Ellen or Helen Clark and then Helen or Ellen Sutherland.  I am interested in what page 443 ? of DONALD WHYTE's vol 1 book has on him.  I luckily got the census info when Ancestry.ca was free in the last few days.  The year 1850 and the page number 443 was obtained from Ancestry.ca.

According to the Middlesex Co. PDF Simon purchased the McKinnon hotel in 1863.  Therefore he immigrated between 1826 and 1863.
