Birth record between 1909 and 1910
« on: Saturday 04 April 15 21:50 BST (UK) »
This is a long shot as I have nothing more than a little family folklore to go on.
it is believed that my Grandmother, Mary Ellen Dawson was  pregnant and engaged to a gentleman.
Our source of this info said that Mary Ellen had the child but it died shortly after birth (not sure how long after hours, days, weeks) and the engagement was called off. She was then sent to Canada to avoid further embarrassment.
She immigrated to Canada in Sept 1910. she was born in Alvaston, Derby England and lived at 14 Trent street at the time of her immigration. Father was Edward Dawson, mother was Sarah (Crossley) Dawson.

Looking for records or confirmation of this missing child?
Thanks

Have you seen the number of Dawson births/deaths in Derbyshire on freebmd 1909-1910?

It would be virtually impossible to pinpoint the right one unless you concentrated on those born in the RD covering Alvaston (Shardlow) .  That pre-supposes she didn't go away from home for the birth

Freebmd has 8 births in Shardlow 1909 - Sept qtr 1910 so you need to look for deaths for those children

That looks spot on doesn't it - I wonder if there is a corresponding death for her.

There's a Fanny E Dawson death in Derby Sep 1912 age 2  :-\

The Fanny Elizabeth burial is Alvaston 18 Aug 1912
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

I wonder if there is a possibility she left the child with family when she came to canada in 1910? The name fanny is a prominent name in her family. That's why I thought it might be a possible match.

That Fanny should be on the 1911 census.
