Actually Breaky, can I ask to check for one more MI, this time in Glenbervie, for Alexander Brand who married Elizabeth Logan/Loggans in Fordoun in 1774.

The reason I am asking is that I am trying to match up the ages of death of the Logan parties to these marriages with children christened to James Logan and Jannet Rheny/Reny in Kinneff. So far both Ann Logan and Christian Logan match up (more-or-less in the latter case).

Glenbervie has no Logan, Law or Rennie (Rainne, Rainnie, Rannie, Rinny or Renny) surnames.  It has Brands, but only this early one seems possible

"1721 AB. FM  Here lyes Alex BRAND in Mill of Glenbervie d 16.7.1714 70. spades, skull, bone, sandglass. (west side) IB. winged soul. MW. empty shield. miller's pick, rhind"

(Rennie crops up at Fettercairn - a David Jolly who dies in 1877 at 91 has a grandson Alex Rennie; and at Benholm, wife Isobel Rennie puts up a stone for Alex Jolly of Arbuthnott who died in 1855 at 78 - he was "12 years at Kinneff").

I've come across cautioner a few times in Scottish marriage certificates as an alternative to witness.
