Gloucester Prison Records?
« on: Sunday 05 April 15 12:42 BST (UK) »
I wonder if there is anyone that can help me?? I am trying to obtain full details about an ancestor that was in Gloucester Prison?

Alexander Elijah Percy Champion NOAD born 1897 Chipping Sodbury.

The only details i have is from his Service Records? He was arrested on 16th March 1932 and in Chipping Sodbury Court on the 18th March 1932. He was sentenced to 4 weeks in Gloucester Prison for Debts Bastardly Arrears? He was in the Army at this time? but his home address was in Norwich, Norfolk.

If anyone can obtain any further details i would be very grateful.
Kind Regards
Jackie

Hi there, I believe my grandfather who died in 1936 went to Gloucester prison for nine months hard labour in late 1933/1934. Is it possible to look him up in the prison records? His name is Abraham Naylor.

Hi,
I'll have a go at trying to locate the prison record of Abraham NAYLOR when I next visit Glos Archives (GA) and get back to you.
Unfortunately I am unable to pre-order the appropriate file as I need to refer to the indexes in GA and will have to wait whilst the file is retrieved from the vault.

Hi Victor,
Thank you very much! I do know that he was sent to boarding school early on in life, for stealing from his step father. That may account for one conviction. I'm not sure about the other. This is fascinating! Thanks again!
