Lost in 1851 and 1881
« on: Monday 06 April 15 14:37 BST (UK) »
In 1861 RG 9/ 2186 fo66 p18 I have a large family headed by Benjamin and Jane FLAVELL.
I have found two groups of them in 1871. At the same address is daughter Elizabeth and some of her siblings no one is listed as Head The parents  and one of the sons are in Uttoxeter lodging at a pub.RG10/ 2892 fo3111  p10
I have found the probate for Benjamin in 1884 and he appears in several directories always in Blakeland St. First as a metal dealer then later as a beer retailer. The probate gives his death at Blakeland Street Small Heath 2 Nov 1884
Can anyone find him in 1861 and 1881 please I can't think what else to try I've put Favell with soundex with and without Ben Benj and Benjamin I've tried all Flavells in Birmingham and Aston and all Flavells anywhere born Staffordshirer
Any help will be appreciated

Hi,

Is it his son Benjamin in Blakeland St 1881 also, with wife Emma and numerous children ? Transcribed as FLAWELL

Class: RG11; Piece: 3048; Folio: 52; Page: 25.

Also other FLAWELL families a few doors down ~ JAMES and wife Hannah and several children, and a BESTY ? Betsy maybe with children.

Is this the same family ?

well this is odd
Benjamin Flavell  age 23 married on 15 Apr 1867 Hannah Williams 22at
Aston, St Peter and St Paul,
his father wasBenjamin Flavell Metal Dea;er her father John Williams also Metal Dealer
Witnesses Elizabeth Flavell X  John Lloyd
The Benjamin and Emma you mention in 1881 are next door to John Williams a general dealer which is how Benjamin Snr is described on the 1861 census althogh he was a metal dealer in 1871 and on the marriage mentioned her and that of his daughter Sarah. There is no Benjamin/emma marriage on free BMD between 1867 and 1881and the two Hannah deaths are in their 70s. I am puzzled Any ideas???

Well done I am sure that James and Hannah is  the oldest son and his wife and of course Betsy is Elizabeth with siblings so thats them in 1881 I wonder was Hannah Williams known as Emma that is still rather odd, Can anyone see a marriage for Benjamin Flavell and an Emma at all
Nowplease where were they  in 1851?

Hi

I think Emma is Hannah in the 1881 census. I think it's just an enumerator error.

I can't find Benjamin and Jane in 1851 at all. They baptized an Ann in 1850 in Upper Gornal and a Mary in 1851 ~abode Ruiton, which is part of Upper Gornal, so I think they could have been there, I just can't see them !

Many thanks Free Reg is giving me quite a few much more informative results now still a lot of the children seem to have missed baptism though
