DISDEL b1938 - any help welcomed!
« on: Monday 06 April 15 19:45 BST (UK) »
Hi, this one has really got me puzzled - any help solving the mystery would be greatly appreciated!

B D was born in q1 1938 in Lewisham, London SE23 to FGD and GKN. Her parents are shown in electoral registers as living at 253 Devonshire Road, Lewisham until 1946.

On 21.05.1948 the family departed for Melbourne, Australia, on the RMS 'Ormonde' (Orient Line), address given as 298 Devonshire Road, Honour Oak Park, SE23 (ties in well with parents electoral register two years previously).

I have finally unearthed death records through Family Search for her father dated 02.07.1966 (Mt Waverley, Melbourne) and for her mother on 06.05.1974 (also at Mt Waverley, Melbourne) but she simply vanishes. I've tried Ancestry, Find My Past, Genes Reunited & Family Search in addition to the Victoria based databases suggested on this forum but there's not a single hit for a marriage, death, or onward travel (she was aged just ten when she emigrated).

Can anyone help me find out what happened to her, please?

I look forward to being astonished once more by your resourcefulness!

With grateful thanks, Andrew.
Gourlay, Noel

Thanks 'groom', that's fantastic news! I don't suppose there is any indication that she married and had a family? If we go onto a private chat, is there any more info you can give me? She is the only known member of a family line that wasn't even known to exist until yesterday, and I'd love to try and make contact!

Once again, I'm blown away just how fast you guys can root out information that I've failed to obtain over days!

The Electoral info was from Ancestry and the artical from Trove. At the moment I can't see anything else, but I'm not sure how recent Australian records are on line.

You will probably get more help once the Australians are awake.  ;D

Gertrude DISDEL seems to be living at 20 Blue Hills Av. in later Electoral lists.

There's a KLESEL with same Christian names as the daughter who seems to be living at that address as well.

That being said I'm drawing a complete blank on that surname.

I wonder if Klesel is a bad transcription of Disdel? What date was that Maureen?
