Stanley family - who was Joseph?
« on: Tuesday 07 April 15 09:47 BST (UK) »
In my family tree I have JOHN STANLEY (1849, Bishop Ryder, Bham) and his wife MARY JANE PARKER (1851/2 Bham). They married in 1867 in Birmingham.

From the census records for 1871, 81, 91 and 01 I have discovered that they had the following children...

Emma (1869 - baptised St Stephen, Bham)
Mary Jane (1871 - baptised Bishops Ryder, Bham)
Harriet (1873 - NO BAPTISM FOUND)
Ada (1876 - NO BAPTISM FOUND)
Josiah (1878 - NO BAPTISM FOUND)
John Henry (1880 - baptised Ashted, St James the Less, Warwickshire)
Maud (1883 - NO BAPTISM FOUND)
Albert Henry (1884 - NO BAPTISM FOUND)

My problem is that I found a baptism in Bishop Ryder for a JOSEPH STANLEY. Parents John and Mary Jane. This baptism date is 1878, the same year that their son Josiah was born. I can find no baptism for Josiah at all. Can anyone help me confirm or disprove that Josiah IS Joseph?

Also if anyone can find the missing baptisms for Harriet, Ada, Maud and Albert Henry that would be great. Are there other children that I don't know about?

NB. I couldn't look at the 1911 census to confirm number of children because both JOHN and MARY JANE died before this census. Unfortunately!

Hi

Having looked at the actual register on Anc* for the baptism of 'JOSEPH', I would say this has been transcribed incorrectly. I think it looks like JOSIAH ~ there is a dot over the 'i' and no 'p' that I can see.

You're right! :) One mystery solved at least.
I still can't understand why I can't find the other baptisms.
