Good Morning John Bell (sorry, evening down under),

William HUMBER is beginning to emerge as a real person through your efforts and I am extremely grateful.   Sadly Rica Erickson's  "Dictionary of West Australians" is not available to me, even through the University library, and I wonder if there is any more narrative in the citation you quoted?    There are no entries in the BDM Indexes, so I am assuming he never married, although that doesn't preclude children!!

The Fremantle Prison website has an entry for "HUNTER", but it is noticeable that the information is almost tentative, certainly not as authoritative as their usual prisoner profiles.

Death.—The death occurred in Perth, on Saturday last of Mrs. Mary Ann Root, wife of Mr. Arthur Root, at the age of 73 years. The deceased was a niece of the late W. Humber, and lived with her husband in the Wongannine district for the last eight years. Her remains were brought to Toodyay by Monday's train, and interred in the Anglican portion of the Toodyay cemetery, the Rev. E. Saunders officiating. The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Mr. J. J. Doust.

I have been corresponding with a HUMBER descendant via Ancestry's Public Member Trees who had no knowledge of William HUMBER's transportation to WA.  However, you have now opened a new avenue for her to explore, namely Arthur and Mary Ann ROOT.

Hi all on this thread. I have found it rather late in the piece.
Is this William Humber born 1835 to James Humber and Rachael Frankland of Loughborough, Leicestershire?
I have been following the same line and it seems it is him. He is my gt gt grandfather Amos Humber’s brother. Amos, William and James Humber were all in court at one time or another.
I would love to have further confirmation if anyone has it.
