Where is the area known as "Alow", Edinburgh in the early 1700's?
« on: Thursday 09 April 15 16:41 BST (UK) »
Hello all,
a quick query - I came across the term "ALOW" as in North Alow, Southside Alow, South Alow, as the residence place of inhabitants of Edinburgh who had relatives buried at Greyfriars' Kirkyard, in the late 1600's and early 1700's. Would anyone know where  the place known as  "Alow" would have been at this period - early 18th century?

I think it's probably Stow you should be looking for.
The writing could easily be misread  / mistranscribed as Alow.

Thanks Don - if I had read the source properly, I would have realized this! Appreciated.

I apologize that I didn't see your replies until now! Yes, I did find that alow is a location reference in Grefriars.
