Patrick Broderick born Cappaquin Waterford about 1861
« on: Friday 10 April 15 00:12 BST (UK) »
Hi I live in Canada and am researching Patrick Broderick who was born about 1861 in Cappaquin Waterford according to his army records . I'd love to see a baptism for him as I don't know who his parents were. He married Anne Jane Butler in Dublin in 1881 and they had 21 children , one in Dublin, some born in India and some in Clonmel Tipperary where they returned about 1899. I don't know her parents either. I'd be very grateful for any help.
Many thanks,
Jan

Their marriage which gives their parents names.
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/f4cf390085074
Also an image of the original
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/display-pdf.jsp?pdfName=st.michans_mf_1856-1888_ma_0556

Which gives his parents address as Cappaquin and He had permission to marry (from the army)

Aldershot is an Army base in England.

You may have this already
1901 Census
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tipperary/Clonmel_East_Urban/Davis_Road/1710154/
Anne was born in New Zealand.
If you look at the original Patrick is crossed out as he is also listed on the Barracks return

Thank you so much for those records . That's amazing!! I had seen the 1901 census but wasn't able to find Patrick on the army barracks  list. How do you find that? Is there any way i could find the marriages of the parents of Ann and Patrick?  I'm so grateful for your help.
Cheers
Jan

This might be him

As you can see they are only listed by initials so it's a bit hit and miss.

You were lucky they married in a part of Dublin which features on that free site.

You know where Patrick was from so you could wait until summer when (keeping fingers crossed) the National Library of Ireland are putting their images of parish records online, or you could try RootsIreland which is a pay site for Patrick's baptism (to get mother's maiden name) and his parents marriage.

As Anne Butler was born in New Zealand, I'm at a bit of a loss. FamilySearch perhaps.

Hi, Many thanks for all your tips. I found Patrick on the barracks list you sent as a lance corporal occup groom. I checked the NZ BMDs but she doesn't appear there. However I've found her on the army returns births on findmypast. I think her father was in the irish army fighting in NZ in the 1860s. It's just an index so I'm not sure how you get the actual record. Any ideas?
Thank you so much for all your help. I'm really grateful.
Cheers
Jan

Good find. That would be the British Army, most likely an Irish Regiment though.
According to this site the GRO

That's the British GRO of course.

What year was the birth you found?
I'm just looking for Irish Regiments that served in New Zealand.
The 18th (Royal Irish) served there from 1863 to 70.
