a double check please - Margaret Oakes b 1838/39 Nessholt,Cheshire
« on: Saturday 11 April 15 12:36 BST (UK) »
OK - my surname Oakes
.my ancestors at one time were in Neston and Little Neston
Daniel Oakes b 1849 Neston comes to Garston and marries in 1871 ,his wife dies and he re marries-  again in St Michaels ,Garston in 1874

the Margaret Oakes b 1838/9 in Nessholt marries Joseph Appleton at St Austin,Grassendale ( now part of Garston ) in 1870 .....for them to both marry within a mile of each other seems a coincidence ...so - I think Margaret was somehow related to my gg grandfather Daniel Oakes ...
Wiki -Nessholt - nearest school is Little Neston ...so Margaret and Daniel are also born less than a mile  from each other .....
whilst I am retracing my gg grandfathers siblings - can sks please check I have not crossed my lines somewhere along the line
1881 census - Margaret Appleton b Nessholt (with Joseph Appleton b Saughall )

1870 St Austin ,Grassendale - Joseph Appleton to Margaret Oakes
thanks - back later

I don't think the Margaret Oakes who married Joseph Appleton 1870 St Augustine Liverpool is the Margaret who was born 1838/9 Nessholt

I think you are looking at the wrong couple in 1881
on 1871 census they had a daughter Mary b.c. 1867 Liverpool and son Joseph 1mth b Liverpool
I believe this couple to be Joseph Appleton & Margaret YOUNG who married 15 Nov 1864 St Nicholas Liverpool

Margaret Oakes who married Joseph Appleton 28 Feb 1870 St Augustine Liverpool (catholic marriage) gives her father as henry

I think this is Joseph Appleton and Margaret Oakes in 1881

Thanks Suzard - did you mean the marriage in 1870 was at St Austin - you have posted St Augustine ?...Liverpoolhistoryprojects Roman Catholic Marriages clearly states St Austin - which is Grassendale,Garston ....anyway - you have sorted out my dilemma - I had the wrong Joseph / Margaret Appleton on 1881 census - so she doesn't appear to be connected to my Daniel at the present moment
thanks for your input - invaluable
cheers
