Where is Foulgate, Bothwell?
« on: Saturday 11 April 15 23:25 BST (UK) »
I have a birth certificate of 1805 naming place Foulgate, Bothwell.  Can someone tell me where it is situated.  I have tried looking at various maps with no luck.   Thanks

East side of the Parish past Holytown next to Parkneuk below Lachope (Lauchope). Has been spelled different ways including Foulyates/Foulyett http://maps.nls.uk/view/74400128

Yett is the old Scots name for gate, so that would make sense.
Paterson, Torrance, Gilchrist - Hamilton Lanarkshire.
McCallum - Oban, McKechnie - Ross of Mull Argyll.
Scrim - Perthshire.
Liddell - Polmont,
Binnie - Muiravonside Stirlingshire.
Curran, McCafferty, Stevenson, McCue - Co Donegal
Gibbons, Weldon - Co Mayo.
Devlin - Co Tyrone.
Leonard - County Donegal & Glasgow.

Well, no wonder I couldn't find Foulgate at the present place of Bothwell!   The marked boundary of the old parish of Bothwell was a revelation.  Thank you DonM and Lodger
