Help needed to find death certificate for Matthew PATTERSON
« on: Sunday 12 April 15 02:03 BST (UK) »
Hi

I hope someone can help me find a death certificate for Matthew PATTERSON who died according to the PRONI wills database on 8 August 1884 being of Ballybogan, Clonleigh, Donegal.

I have searched the new Irish BDM index on irishgenealogy.ie but can’t find him under various spellings.  I have also searched the GRONI without a result.  I particularly want to find his age at his death.

Does anyone have any advice on why I can’t find him?

Many thanks

far as i can see he's just not registered maybe a search of the local papers for the time might bear fruit.

I agree with Dathai. A death in Ballybogan should have been registered in Strabane but there’s no sign of it. So unless there is an error with the indexing, it looks as though the death wasn’t registered.

You could e-mail GRO Roscommon, enclosing the probate abstract, and ask them to do a manual search of the Strabane death records.

Many thanks for the replies received today.  It does seem that Matthew's death wasn't registered but I will do as Elwyn suggests and email Roscommon and get their opinion.

The death of the Matthew Patterson posted by conahy can't be him unless the date in the wills index at PRONI is wrong which is also a possibility.

Many thanks for your help.

Just a thought - would anyone know where Matthew would have been buried?  I know there is a very old cemetery at Ballybogan but he's not listed on the online transcript of it.

Would there be a newer cemetery in the area?

Thanks again

irishgenealogy is far from complete....there are plenty of omissions!!
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

No problem, I'd be inclined to think he was registered because there was a Will and it would need to be produced at some stage for Legal purposes... not certain!!
