Percival BUTEMENT (BUTIMAN, BEAUTIMAN, BEAUTYMAN)
« on: Sunday 12 April 15 13:00 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to trace what happened to Percival after 1775 when he and his wife Susannah (nee CHARGE) baptised their daughter Lucy in Barton, Yorkshire. After that he just disappears from the records (as far as I can see). The next time his wife Susannah appears, she is baptizing an illegitimate son William in 1798, and an illegitimate daughter Mary in 1805. I know it's stretching her fertile years a bit, so I may be looking at the wrong Susannah.
Anyway, the next thing I can find for him is when he Baptizes a son William in 1781 in Hull (but now his name is Percival BEAUTIMAN, so did he just do a bunk from Barton and go to Hull? Or did he die in Barton.
I should have mentioned he was born in Kirby in Cleveland, Yorkshire in 1748, and married Susannah in Barton in 1772.
Any help would be most welcome!
Regards
Keith.

Hi

If Percival and Susannah baptized a daughter in 1775 then it 's safe to say there are two Percivals as there is a marriage in Hull in 1774 (unless he was leading a double life  :) )

Percival BUTEMONT married Sarah AGAR  7 December 1774 St Mary, Kingston upon Hull.

Hi

Wonder if Percival and Susannah moved to Gateshead ? There are baptisms of an Ann and Elizabeth daughters of Percival ( a butcher) and Susannah there.

The other Percival was baptizing children in Hull between 1775-1793.

Thank you so much Claire,
I think that what you have suggested could be quite likely. I shall have to do a bit more investigating around Gateshead.  I wonder who the Susannah BUTEMENT was in Barton. It gets more like a detective story all the time ;D
Thanks again,
Keith

Hi

Burial

Percival BATEMONT buried 10 May 1793 St Mary Gateshead. Occupation: Butcher.

Daughters were baptized the same day he was buried, can understand a move back to Barton for Susannah
