I am interested in finding out  about the original Lundie mill, near Largo  in Fife mid to late 17th century. Any information would be wonderful.

Thanks for this information! Looks like the mill owner in 1650s and 1660s was a William Lundie. Would he be related to Robert Maitland the Laird of Lundie ?

Thanks - I think his brother in law mentioned would be Robert Eadie -  first wife's brother? Thanks to the link I am hoping to find out about a charter dated 1666 held at St Andrews re. sale of land and mill at Byrehillis to William Lundie and Elizabeth (Elspet) Eadie! Also, Robert Maitland, Laird of Lundie, was  second son of the Earl of Lauderdale, who married Margaret, daughter of John Lundie,  third son of John Lundie of that Ilk, and the grandson of William Lundie of that Ilk. John died in 1647, and was succeeded to Lundie by his daughter Margaret  and son in law Robert Maitland who adopted the name Lundie. Margaret was succeeded by her daughter Sophia Lundin.

A.S,  this from "The Scottish Country Miller  1700-1900", by Enid Gauldie, 1981.

The lands, barony of Benhame with the mill, were granted by John Lundy of that ilk, knight & spouse Isabel, to their son Robert in the 1491. The De Benhame's had held these lands from the 12th cent' and they passed by marriage from the Lundy's to the Keith, Earls Marischal until 1669 when sold to Scott of Logie. The estate mill is apparently still in use.

Hi AncesStory

Have you read History of the Clan Lundy, Lundie, Lundin; One of the most ancient families of the Kingdom of Scotland; A history and genealogy from the 11th Century to the present day by Robert Alan Lundie Smith : The Grimsay Press (2005): ISBN 1 84530 023 8 Paperback: ISBN 1 84530 024 6 Hardback)?

I found out where my maternal Granny got "Lundie" in her name from this book!

Aye mair questions than answers in a world where the past was a different place - that cannae be revisited!

Family surnames being researched ...
Crawford, Neilson, Lindsay, Reekie, Davidson
Drummond, Laing, Pearson, Tulloch ... will do for starters but there's a whole lot more!
