certainly easier to read the law case than slogging through the pages of the will!

I've just had a root around Welsh Newspapers Online and can;t see anything reporting his death - although the auction of his house in October 1870 is advertised.

He seems to be a man for getting involved in lengthy exhanges of not always polite correspondence in the local paper regarding several issues, so not always popular. for example

His wife remarried in 1874 Henry John Scowcroft of Tredegar House, so think she did well for herself

There are a few marriage announcements from 1858, but whilst Mary’s father is mentioned, William's is not. I presume Mary was a fair bit younger, as there's an announcement of her death (under Musgrave, but widow of W Robertson) in 1910 aged 75.

Intriguingly there is a notice if her marriage to a Corporal Hill in Farnborough in 1889, shortly followed by a retraction from the newspaper!

I found it by searching as osprey suggested - Robertson v Powell codicil . But there may be better versions.
It does however, state the essential information.

Looking back at the will, there is mention of his son William by Elizabeth James.

Well done again to osprey  :)

Yes a very big thank you to everybody and a job very well done.

I cannot say how often I have come back to William to have another tilt at the brickwall and in desperation [perhaps exasperation] decided to post.

I eagerly look forward to having the skills sets that have been demonstrated during this thread by osprey, mabel and your good self 'heywood'.  8)
