An account of the incident was published in Freeman's Journal on 9 Jul 1877:
BRAY PETTY SESSIONS
Messrs. Phineas Riall, D.L.; W. LaTouche, D.L.; R. R. Wingfield, H. Sandys, and S. Hanna, R.M., presided on Saturday in the Courthouse, Bray, for the disposal of business of the petty sessions. A young man named Robert Boyd was prosecuted by the police for having assaulted Edward Broderich and his wife at Windgate, on the evening of the 30th ult. It appeared that both the parties were on their way home, and Boyd asked complainant to give him a lift in his cart. Brodereick refused to do so, but the defendant got into the cart. The complainant then endeavoured to get him out, upon which Boyd assaulted him, and also his wife. The defendant was ordered to be imprisoned for two months and kept to hard labour.

I'm amazed you have found all this out. I'm better than I was at searching but not great
