GARRETT families Newport Pagnell area 18th century
« on: Tuesday 14 April 15 14:26 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to track down the origins of my 5 x GGF Isaac GARRETT born ca 1745 and suspect he came from the Newport Pagnell area before moving to Ridgmont by 1773.

His father's name may have been William. Any suggestions for locations in the area?

Petros,
Although I can't help with your specific GARRET I can tell you the following for NP:
1. In Pigot's directory 1823/4 there was as George Garratt (near High Street) listed under White & Blacksmiths
2. In1872 a William Garratt (of Lodging House, Paggs, Silver Street) was listed as being entitled to graze stock in Bury Field.
So there is evidence of GARRATTs after the date you are interested.
There are also some marriages in NP:
Hannah Garret/John Ellis 3 Oct 1693
Thomas Garrat/Elizabeth Petts 22 Jun 1820
Sussannah Garrat/Thomas Turrill 25 Oct 1829
Ann Garrat/John Wells 3 Apr 1831
Regards
Peter

Caesar, Dicker, Lamden, West - Hampshire
Hicks, Martin, Masters - Kent, Middlesex
Hancox/Hancock/Hancocke - Warwickshire
Gardner - Devon
Traylen - Essex & Jersey

My great-great-grandmother Esther GARRETT married Frederick WHITLOCK at St Michael's in Woburn Sands in December 1871.

The fantastic Woburn Sands collection website http://www.mkheritage.co.uk/wsc/index.html has lots of Garrett entries if you look at the Family History search section.

Esther was born in Stoke Goldington and the Stoke Goldington Association website http://www.mkheritage.co.uk/sga/index.html has a number of Garrett MIs showing if you select Family History and then select G.

Both places are close to Newport Pagnell.
