Thank you ever so much, at least I know what my Great Gran Gran looked like, which is so much more than I do for her daughter, since all photos were lost to one of my Granddads siblings.

As Trish says tintypes were in vogue for a very long time, actually into WWII I think...they were often produced by itinerant photographers or seaside booths because the developing equipment wasn't as involved as the stuff needed to make prints. The negative was the picture, treated to appear as a positive, so all you had to do really was develop the neg.
