Michael Joseph Cody Private in 2/16 Regt of Foot

Not sure if this or the Military board is the correct place .Michael was born Ireland in 1842 and is on the 1871 English census at Chatham barracks as a private in 2/16 Regt Of Foot. Between then and 1876 he marries  Sarah J born in Cork , Ireland ( see 1911 Census for William Wood in Charlton Kent near Woolwich her son in law) Unable to find marriage of Michael and Sarah . Michael dies 1890 in Medway, Kent leaving Sarah with 4 Children Rosanna E b 1877 Gillingham ,Donald James 1882, Sarah Josephine 1884 and Michael Lawrence 1888.

Have tried but failed to find  Michael Joseph Military record. Would like to find this and Sarah's maiden name.
Appreciate any information. all that I have is on a tree on a major site.

Michael's service record can be found on Findmypast's website. However I didn't see any reference to his spouse or children.

The only marriage in the England and Wales civil marriage index which features a Michael Cody with a bride called Sarah was registered in the Colchester district in Essex in 1880. The two brides listed in the entry were Esther Howard and Sarah Pyford. You may want to check that event to rule out a possible late marriage.

Also do not rule out they may have married outside the UK, Europe or maybe they never married at all. If the latter is true, you may have to purchase one of their children's birth certificates to find out Sarah's maiden name

Hello .Just by way of update I have the birth cert for Rosanna Elizabeth Cody 6 Oct  1876 at Chatham Barracks/Gillingham   and her mother Sarah Codys maiden name is Mc Donald. Suspect we are looking for a marriage  around 1874/5 but no idea if in England --haven't managed to find one yet.

It may well be as there is no mention of Wife or Children on his Service docs they may never have actually married !
