William Wood b about 1855 Chelsea is listed in 1935 on his daughters Marriage Cert as deceased but occupation Sergt Major Royal Engineers. The 1911 census has him as Army Pensioner working in the Dockyard.( wife is Rosanna E )Can not read what it says for the 1901 census.

Can trace his family forwards but would like to learn more about his  service in the Royal Engineers and appreciate any help. Sorry can not find him on earlier census returns . He marries around 1900.

Hi,
There are army service records for a William Wood born 1853 St Lukes , Chelsea, A carpenter by trade, attested 15.04.1872.
Sgnt Major Royal Engineers.
If this might be him then he was married before to an Elizabeth McDonald in Cork but his wife appears to have died in 1896.

Thank You . Yes this looks like them. Would have expected to have found John and Mary Williams parents on the 1861 census but no joy so far--a lot of John Wood in the area William was born in .Address on Bith Cert for William looks like 8 Brewer Street or Macuer Street.
