Canada death
« on: Friday 17 April 15 18:04 BST (UK) »
Hi all
I have an extensive tree but no experience of Canadian records.  I am trying to find a Scottish born man died 1865 in Canada according to his gravestone.  Is there a central death register for all of Canada?

Thank you in advance

Hi Snowy Owl,

The short answer is no - there are no Central Registries in Canada with BMD records.  There will be some death records available depending on where that death occurred.
Have you looked the through the family search collections to see if anything pops up ?

You could give some details on here, to see if anyone can find anything for you.

Thanks , As i expected! I will try fam search though.  I am looking for John Grant originated from Grantown on Spey ,   I assume he would be adult age when he died  in 1858 in Canada,  as parents and siblings  remained in the village.

Have you looked to see if there was reference to his death in a death notice in Scottish newspapers ?
