I did find these Belleville/Hastings death dates but they are just about a decade too late to list George.
I'll post in case that couple is yours & offspring are ever mentioned

I am hoping they are yours as early retirement & a large home meant he fared well at least occupation -wise.

adding, darn...I found the more recent listings ...& this appears to be his death  "ELLIS, GEORGE JAMES RICE" and he died in 1970, so without more info post census... George will be hard to find

This may have been the fellow...also from England https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JS9N-PDH

Hi Sarah,

We have 27 ELLIS in the British Home Children database.
One of them is even a GEORGE, but he sailed on the Dominion in 1902, so he can't be yours.

Fancy adding your George to the database ?  Other people might find him there and be able to add more details.

And you will then bring the grand total of entries in the database from 23999 to 24000 !

regards,
Bob

Thanks JJ I do have most of the information you mentioned but thanks for clarifying that it was Cornelius Urbane Clancy he went to, as the 1921 census was really hard to read,  I found a photograph on ancestry on someone else's tree which has a photograph of Eleanor.
Thanks
Sarah

Hi Bob

I have already registered George, he has really got under my skin and I decided that he deserved a voice.

Sarah

That's another avenue discounted JJ - there seemed to be a slight "hic-cup" with the name - George Campbell Ellis or when he landed George John Ellis - I must admit when that 1957 Canada Voters List was showing retired, it didn't seem like a good omen  ::)  Back to the drawing board.  Its trial and error.

Anything is a possibility at this stage - perhaps this is another we could check out -  George Ellis born 1901 passed away in 1980 - had a wife Mary. Both buried Mount Pleasant. London Ontario.  (driving distance 375 km away from Rawdon Hastings Ontario)

There was a George Frederick Ellis born in Middlesex Ontario 5 May 1901 - (Father Frederick James Ellis and Mother Frances Bluck) could the above be him  ???

Hello
My George Ellis was born 1908 in Hastings, Sussex, England, what a coincidence he ended up in Hastings Ontario.

His brother Arthur arrived back in England on 17th Nov 1920, he was unfit for work in Canada.
I have spoken to Arthurs family and they know nothing about George after Arthur returned home.

Regards
Sarah
