Hi keyboard86, your info led me to search the Kimberley seige online info. Found photos of a handwritten enlistment list. In a column next to the names are what seemed to be the "JW" you found. Puzzled, I looked up and down the column and realised it contained RANK, so JW is the way the abbreviation (Tpr) for TROOPER was deciphered by the person catching the data! If you like I can email you a copy of the page.

Thank you again.

Hi again, their must have been other Troopers what "initial" is shown against them, the fact the notes depict initials also JW would suggest something re his alternative name/s used?

Also what information of father is on the marriage certificate?

THANK YOU, WHITEOUT7, I'VE KEPT THE DEATH NOTICE, IN CASE... (Not shouting at anyone!)

Hi keyboard86 - on the marriage certificate there NO clear name for his father, James Daniel was 26. He married in Kimberley south Africa, in 1901.
He worked as a MINER  in the diamond mine.
His 3rd child was born in Kimberley South Africa in 1907. He did not go to Australia after the Boer war.
I am very pleased with all the help I have received. I am now looking at Ireland and his emigration to South Africa

Hi again, can you post a copy of the marriage certificate, and also can you look at the other Troopers on the same page of the Kimberley Siege record to see if they have been transcribed the same for Trp?

His full service record would show how and when he got to South Africa?
