Lydford Bridge Hotel, Devon
« on: Monday 20 April 15 20:15 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I cannot find anything about the hotel -  I got a photo in colour. All I found is Francis Frith b/w photo. Do anyone who live in the area and can confirm its still exist?

I have seen an 1895 b/w photo of Lydford Bridge Hotel (Francis Frith) which looks very much like a picture published in The Times, Oct 21 1936, advertising the sale of Bridge House, Lydford, Devon - location Tavistock 7 miles, Okehampton  8 miles.

click on 1907 map - zoom and scroll to West.

I also think it is Bridge House.  However, it is many years since I was in Lydford.

Well, I stayed there in 1981. Its strange its not exist anywhere online apart from you mentioned in messages.

Do you think its gone?

Hi,

Sorry to reopen this thread almost 2 years on. Lydford Bridge Hotel stopped being a hotel roughly around 1982, since then it has been known as Bridge House & currently belongs to my father in law and his partner. My wife grew up there and we are in the process of doing part of the house up, as we are moving there with our family very soon.

As well as being a hotel, Bridge House was also a boarding school during the Second World War. I too have come across the Francis Frith photo. I would love to see any photos that you have of it when You stayed, if you were able to send any copies on to me, that would be greatly appreciated.
