Printfield Workers in Dunbartonshire
« on: Tuesday 21 April 15 01:02 BST (UK) »
The following links may help if you have ancestors who worked as printfield workers in Dunbartonshire. In Victorian era most of the Vale of Leven female workforce were employed (as beetlers, blaxters, bleachers, block printers, cloth mill workers, embossers. printers, print cutters) , at  print and dyeworks producing printed cloth - drapes, chair covers, coverlets,  handkerchiefs - much of it for export.

Many of my ancestors were printfield workers in the Bonhill/Renton area.  Wondering if there is any way to tell which factory they worked at.

Dear Trish58,

I also have Rae family memebers from Dumbartonshire that worked in the printfields. Is there a way I can contact you to exchange information? I am brand new to RootsChat.com

Hi, I’ve been researching my family tree and have discovered my grandmother’s birth parents in Scotland, Allan Rae and Jeannie Barron. Allan parents were Allan Scott and Matilda Rae. Seems all were illegitimate and for some reason they gave Allan the mother’s surname later as birth states Allan Scott born 08/08/1893.  States Matilda and Allan were both Printfield hands in Dumbarton.
Just trying to find any more info for the Rae or Scott families. Thanks Kylie
