That marriage would be a generation earlier, but with similar name and location, likely to be part of same family.

I'm only a few years late to the party so wonder if anyone will see this, but I've been struggling with this too.
The Conyers of Copt Hall seem from Wikipedia to have been Cambridge educated landed gentry so it seems unlikely that they are immediate forebears of an illiterate agricultural labourer.
My first thought was that Conyers would be a mother's or grandmother's maiden name but I can't find anything. Now I'm wondering if the first George Conyers Parish could have been named that was because he was an illegitimate son of one of the Conyers from the big house.
Anyone think that likely?

Welcome to Rootschat. Anyone who has contributed to this thread should get an email notification that there has been a new post (that is the email address they used in 2015 still works, of course).
If the first George Conyers Parish married in 1794, it is likely he was born in early 1770's. Of course it is always possible he was the illegitimate son of one of the Conyers family. Or one or both of the parents worked for the Conyers family and they honoured their employer when they named their son.

Looking at Freereg transcription, the abode of Gilbert Parish on GCP I baptism record was Copped Hall, so does sound like he might be an employee of the Conyers

There is a marriage of a William Parish in Epping to Elizabeth Spradbury on 22 Oct 1777. It says the grooms father was Gilbert, a yeoman. Unusual for fathers of couple to be mentioned at this time, but I have seen it occasionally for gentry / nobility. Possibly to make things clear for inheritance or to avoid confusion with others with the same name. So if Gilbert was a yeoman and lived at Copped / Copt Hall maybe he farmed land ultimately owned by the Conyers.

There is a marriage of a Gilbert Parish to Mary Westwood in Great Parndon on 13 Dec 1758, he was a widower. This might fit with Gilbert having a son William who was obviously much older than GCP I.

I think the first marriage of Gilbert was a clandestine one in London in 1750 to Elizabeth Ricket. On both marriages he was recorded as being of Netteswell. - a small parish now engulfed by Harlow new town.
