Rotherham to Canada
« on: Tuesday 21 April 15 14:06 BST (UK) »
Hi
I wonder if anyone out there could help shed some light on this for me. I am doing some family history research for my partner and the search has led me to Canada. He had a Great uncle called Edgar B Beeley and he was born in Rotherham, England in 1915. I have found records suggesting that he got married in Rotherham in 1944 to Vera Webb and they may have had a daughter called Gaynor in 1947 in Manchester, both Vera and Gaynor came across to Canada on 29/6/1948 and their last address was in Stockport, England. Edgar went to Canada on 26/2/1948, just a few months before his wife and child and his last address was the same as theirs. In 1953 I found a marriage between Edgar and Elsie M Roberts in Rotherham, England. I also found a death record for Elsie M Beeley in Canada and Edgar is listed as her ex husband, I just wondered if anyone could find out anymore information. I have yet to find a death record for Edgar and I'm not sure if he had any more children.

Thanks in advance
Kerry.

Vera and Gaynor returned to England 29 Feb 1949. The form indicates that they intended to stay in England. I cannot find Edgar returning but he must have done so as he married Elsie there. Edgar B and Elsie M are on the 1958 Voters' List at 21St West Coast-Capilano , BC. In 1963 Elsie is alone at the same address. She then appears in 1972 and 1974 in Vancouver , which ties in with the death record. I cannot spot Edgar after 1958 , perhaps he died after the 1993 cut off for availability of records.

Sorry - not much help !

Hello Kerry,

Edgar could have died sometime in the mid-1950s. Since CB has been unable to locate him in BC, he may have separated from his wife and then moved on - possibly another part of Canada, the USA (historically there has been lots of movement between the 2 countries) or returned to the UK and/or elsewhere. I would look for a divorce/separation document. Hope that helps,

Hi

Thanks everyone you've given me something to go on, when I spoke to my partner he said he seems to remember Uncle Eddie and his wife Mary, he seems to think he passed away about 10 years ago now. He also thinks he may have a photograph of him which he is looking for at the moment. He seems to recall some family feud regarding a caravan!

Thanks again

Kerry

Maybe the North Bay Public Library could help you with an Obituary for Edgar. There is a link for general enquiries.

library@cityofnorthbay.ca

Otherwise it might have to be "snail mail" to the lady mentioned on this link

Hi from Canada.  Edgar Broadhurst(named after his Dad) Beeley was my Uncle.  My Mum's brother.  After he was divorced from Elsie he married Marry Ann Josefowich.  She died in 2012.  He had no other children than Gaynor.  When he came to Canada he lived with us.  He passed away quite a few years ago.  I hope that this is helpful to you.
