Hi and welcome to Rootschat

Without knowing birthyears - it's difficult to give info

Where was your father born?  If he was born in Scotland in or before 1914,  you can download a copy of his birth cert from Scotlands People.  If he was born 1915 onwards you would have to buy a copy.  His birth cert will give you his mothers name and maiden name.

If your grandparents married in Scotland - the same site can be used to find their marriage.  Marriages up to 1939 can be downloaded.  If they married in England or Wales you can look for the marriage here  www.freebmd.org.uk  or on https://familysearch.org/search

There was a Thomas Clarence Waddel, born 1 Nov 1922, and died Jan-Mar 1989, in Croydon, Surrey, England.  There was someone by the same name (but with first name and middle name switched) born the same year in Calcutta.  Is this your father's half brother?

IGI has four children of Hugh/Hew E(a)rnest and Amelia Jemima
Mary bap 21 Dec 1881
Thomas born 16 Nov 1881 bap 21 Dec 1881
Jessie bap 14 Nov 1884
Benjamin Freeman bap 8 Jan 1886

Hugh Ernest Waddel married Amelia Horrox 8 September 1877, West Bengal.

I wonder if Hugh could have been one of the Irish Waddells? There were quite a lot of them named Hugh. If he was, I probably have some information about his family.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

the records are held at the British Library at St Pancras, London.

Information on obtaining a baptism certificate (not a birth certificate, they don't exist) is here

http://www.bl.uk/reshelp/findhelpregion/asia/india/indiaofficerecordsfamilyhistory/familyresearch.html#search

you need to fill out the application for this and send the £18

http://www.bl.uk/reshelp/findhelpregion/asia/india/indiaofficerecordsfamilyhistory/ecclesiasticapplication2010.pdf

the reference for the entry you mention is

N1/178/16

but I notice that the names don't match, you said you are looking for.....

Louis Earnest Waddell baptised 1 October 1911 at St Teresa, Bengal, his date of birth is given as 20 September and his parents are Thomas & Marie Blanche. The reference is N1/376/118
