I hope I'm posting on the correct board.

I'm trying to find the burial place of my GrGr Grandmother and 4 of her babies. She died 15th October 1889 in 116 Southwick Road, Dalbeattie, I have her death certificate.
3 of her children preceded her and one died at or shortly after her death, although her death certificate does say heart disease not childbirth. I've done a complete tour of the legible gravestones in Dalbeattie cemetery, and although I did find other family, I could not find GtGt Grandma Margaret (McTurk) Drain.

I'm thinking that the local authorities might have it on record (Manchester do) and would like to be able to contact them, but can't find out who/where to contact.
Is Dalbeattie Cemetery privately owned or council?
Any ideas would be very welcome
Thanks in advance

Hi Bev

After rummaging around Dumfries & Galloway council's website, it's seems to be listed here with contact details at the bottom of the page

http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=11485

but they are the same for all their cemetery departments

Hopefully they can help or point you in the right direction

Thank you Matt and Dawn for answering.
I followed the link and telephoned them, wow, the lady was really helpful, she's been searching for a couple of hours for me.

Unortunately it would appear that GtGt Grandma Margaret isn't buried in Dalbeattie Cemetery, nor are her babies. Thank you for your kind offer Matt.

I'm wondering if they were buried in a Catholic Church graveyard since the family was RC, but I'm not sure which one to check. They lived and died on Southwick Road, and the closes RC church doesn't have a graveyard.

Once again Thank you

I would go back to her and ask if she has any suggestions as to where they could be.

I did ask, and no, she doesn't, the records they hold don't cover the churches unfortunately  :'(

Hi Bev

Have you tried contacting the Scottish Catholic Archives? While Scotland's People have the searchable catalogue online they hold the original records and searches can be done in person in Edinburgh. They may be able to suggest alternative burial grounds in the area. They do like using latin names in their registers so you may wish to try name variants with that in mind when searching.
