Invernisk - a large house near Banagher, but in Galway
« on: Friday 24 April 15 10:15 BST (UK) »
I am trying to get some more information on Invernisk, a large house owned by Otway Waller from about 1915 to about 1930

I have read the books written by Waller's son which have some, but not many, details.

Invernisk was bought by Waller's wife in about 1915 for him. He later divorced her and there was a fire in 1930.

I don't know what happened to the house after 1921, nor what happened to it after the fire in 1930

Does anyone have any information ?

Hello,

Have you read this? It is very long and I think part of the book you have already read.

Thanks you both for your inputs

Yes, the book is "Atlantic Affair" and that is the one I have read.

There is a second book, which I have also read, by the same author "Irish Flames" Peter Waller's  Story of the Arrival of the Black and Tans. It uses false names, but the heart of that story, a raid on Invernisk on New Years Eve 1920/1921 and the death of a Black and Tan commander that night is not true (there were no deaths that would fit the story among British forces, Black & Tan, Auxiliary or Army)

Otway Waller appears to have split from his wife around 1922, and did not divorce until 1930. His wife appeared to have probably lived in Invernisk alone until 1930

The book records a fire in Invernisk in 1931, and he probably sold the house between 1931 and 1935, but I am not sure.

Invernisk appears to still exist today, so is it a complete reconstruction of the 1931 fire damaged house, or is it a new house
