Meechan/Park

Hello,
Me again.

I have Patrick Meechan marry Janet (Jessie) Park in Greenock in 1872, He is 35 and she is 22, they marry according to the Church of Scotland, all their children married in a RC church.

The problem is that on his marriage cert Patrick says that he is a Batchelor and his parents are Bernard Meechan (Farmer) and Ann River.

On his death cert in 1885 it has Janet as his second wife and a Catherine Kelly as his first wife.  It also states that his father is Bryan Meechan (Painter)and his mother Roseann Devine.  The person that gave the information is his wife Janet Meechan 

I am totally confused, I obviously have come across slight differences in certificates, I have hundreds, but this has totally thrown me.

Can anyone help??

Patrick was born in Ireland

Not surprised you're confused Kathy!

SP have a death record for Catherine MEEHAN, other name Kelly, age 35, 1871 Greenock.  It may be worth looking to see if her husband was Patrick.  Otherwise I can't see them as a couple in 1861 or find a marriage record.

Thank you, it is the right death, I am still more confused, her parents were Archibald Kelly and Elizabeth Wilkie, have found a death for Elizabeth in 1868 and Catherine is a Mechan then, but I cannot find a marriage or even find them on the census, they lived in Market St Greenock in 1868 and 1871, but Catherine died before the 1871 census.

If Catherine’s father, Archibald, was a shoemaker, and you allow for the mangled spelling, this could be the family.

1868 Elizabeth Kelly, maiden name Wilkie died at Greenock.  The informant was her daughter, Catherine Mechan.
 
1871 Catherine Meehan, maiden name Kelly, married to Patrick Meehan, died aged 35 at Greenock.  Her parents were Archibald Kelly and Elizabeth Kelly, maiden name Wilkie.

It is the correct family, Archibald was a Shoemaker, I was just starting again to find the family on ancestry when your message popped up.

I will try and get a copy of Patrick and Catherine's marriage cert to see what names he put for his parents then!   I notice that Patrick and Catherine did not seem to have children.
