Thomas Stewart of BLACKFIELD, Perthshire - MY APOLOGIES!
« on: Friday 24 April 15 19:13 BST (UK) »
My apologies to all - I misread the placename associated with Thomas Stewart, father of Ann Stewart, born Moneydie, Perthshire, 1817. His name and occupation on the death certificate of his daughter Ann Stewart is "THOMAS STEWART, BLACKFIELD WATCHMAN"

Any pointers on how to find Blackfield, Perthshire? Hopefully in the vicinity of Moneydie/Redgorton (where Thomas Stewart and Christian McFarlane's children were born, 1817-1829)

Are you sure it says Blackfield. My first thought on seeing this was that it should read bleachfield, and indeed when I look at the old map of the area I see that there were bleach works on either side of the river near Luncarty. A bleachfield watchman would make more sense ...

I have come across bleachfield watchmen before. I agree it would be more likely.

The new linen was laid out to bleach in the sun for some time so obviously needed watching.

Hi
Around the time you are looking at there were bleachfields at:

Luncarty this village was built on the back of the bleachworks,

Redgorton village itself had bleachfields as did Moneydie and Pitcairngreen

all of which were next door to one another
