Noah Bills
« on: Saturday 25 April 15 17:19 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out more on Noah Bills born 1886 to Thomas and Elfreda Bills Gateshead. 1911 he was visiting his brother Thomas and family in Gateshead. Noah was a sergeant in The Durham Light Infantry, from a record on Ancestry 1917 he was serving in the Norfolk Regiment as Company Sergeant Major and was awarded the Medaille Militaire for distinguished service.  Noah was my husbands 1st cousin 2x removed.

Do you have him in the 1891 and 1901 censuses? If so, what other information are you looking for  :)

I see there is a thread about the medal here http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=719059.msg5628394#msg5628394

Are you sure his father was Thomas, as English births and christenings (no image available) says Isaac and Alpher Ada.

He might have gone to New Zealand in 1924.

Marriage 1919 in Hexham to Mary E Clark.

She could have been married before as she and Noah are both 38 in 1924.

Children with them are Olive (3) Norman (2) and Douglas (1).

No, free bmd shows Bills/Clark births for Norman and Douglas, but not Olive?

There is a Douglas Arthur Bills living at 52 Arthur Street and a Noah Bills living at 53 Arthur Street in 1949.

Also a Norman Bills also living on Onehunga.

There is a death for a Noah Bills in 10th September 1939 (CSM 8705 1914-1918), so the 'other' Noah is probably a son?

Noah (senior) does not have a wife with him in 1928.  There is a possible marriage for him in 1929 to Richenie Maude Marguerite McIntosh and the two of them together in 36 Arthur Street in 1938.

The Noah Bills who died in NZ in 1939 was aged 53

https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Search/Search.aspx?Path=%2fqueryEntry.m%3ftype%3ddeaths#SearchResults

The death certificate will have the names of the parents. This can be ordered online from www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz

Request a historical print out (you will see the options listed) as this has the most info. It will be emailed to you in a few days. Ditto for the 1929 marriage.
