My pleasure - you just need to check re Christina's maiden name - all the other details look possible but not if her maiden name was definitely McLean (unless she had been married before of course).

Christinas maiden name is definently McLean and she is from Skye  so I am thinking that Donald McDonald ( a good highland name from the western isles ) is perhaps the husband of one of Christinas sisters ? I viewed the 1901 census after your info and it is the right family ,completly spot on ~ thank you so much it was a very helpful lead  :D

Just to add out of interest Christina McLean married James Craig in 1884 when they were both 21 ~ She sadly drowned in the River Leven near Renton in 1913 aged 50 .

Hi, a few bits that may help.

Marriage: (which I think you already have)
James Craig
age:21
occ:printfield labourer
residence:Dalquburn,Renton
father:William Craig
mother:Jeanie Webster
Christina McLean
age:21
occ:printfield hand
residence:Main St,Renton
father:Malcolm McLean
moter:Christina McDermid

1891 Scottish census:
Clydebank,Dumbarton

James Craig  age:28
Christina Craig  age:28
William Craig  age:6
Christina Craig  age:3
Mary McDonald  age:14  boarder
Christopher Adamson  age:70  boarder
George Craig  age:35  boarder

I found this which seems to tell us about Christopher Adamson;

1 December 1845 Jane Webster married Christopher Adamson in Scoonie,Fife. I wonder if this is James Craig's mum/grandmother???

1881 Scotland census:
Urquhart Farm House,Dunfermline,Fife

James Craig age 19  born:1862 New Cumnock,Ayr  son
William Craig  age 54
Jane Craig  age 52
John Craig  age 24
William Craig  age 16
Jane A. Craig  age 13
Margaret McArthur  age 18 servant
Margaret Gibson age 17 servant
Peter Bennet  age 52 servant
Donald McDonald  age 32 born Invernessshire  occ:shepard

I then looked at births in Ayr for 1855-1865 and there were only 2 in Irvine and neither had your James' parents. Then I looked at the ones for New Cumnock and found another 2-both were for James one in 1859 8 Nov and the other 2 May 1861 and both had same parents William Craig & Jane Sloan.Maybe mum was married several times??? Keeping on this line, I looked for a marriage between 1855-1865 in all Scotland for William Craig & Jane and the only one that came close to it is 1860 in Abdie,Fife for William Craig & Jane Eliza Edmiston ?(possible misspelling of Adamson?
In the 1851 census it shows that Jane & Christopher Adamson had 2 sons,David  age 4 and Robert  age 2 but they do not appear with her & William in 1861. David is aged 14 and with his father in Dundee,Angus and Robert may be one of several Roberts in Fife on their own or he may have passed away.

1871 Scotland census;
Barra,Invernessshire

Malcolm McLean  age 50  born 1821 in Barra,Inverness  occ:crofter
Christina McLean  age 40  born 1831 in Barra  wife
Christina McLean age 14 born 1857 in Barra
Flora McLean  age 8 born Barra
Angus McLean  age 7 born Barra
Elizabeth McLean  age 6 born Barra
John McLean  age 2 born Barra

Birth:

Christina McLean
13 January 1858
Barra, Invernessshire
parents:Malcolm McLean & Christina Mc-----(cannot read)
* note: on same page is a birth for a John McDonald on the 14 January to a Donald McDonald in Barra

Lasly,I looked at deaths for Christina(McDermid??)McLean after 1884-1920 in Inverness. Now I didn't find a one with the McDermid former surname but quite a few with McDonald. I wonder was Christina's mom a former McDonald??
Hope this helps,Kim

Hi Kim ,thanks so much for all the work you have put in ! Its incredibly kind of you :) We went down the Barra road but in the end up decided Barra wasn't Skye .Someone else suggested her middle name wasn't McDiarmid but was McNeill so we decided things were drifting away to much from the evidence we had from a number of other certificates ~ Jane Webster sounds promising and I will share all your findings with Leanne in Australia ~ thank you again ,you've been a gem xx

Hi, I too am researching this family. Annie was sister to William Craig who is my husbands Grandfather.  Would love to contact Leanne in Australia who from posts gather she is Annie’s granddaughter.
