George Robert Rosser b q3 1878 St Saviour Southwark
« on: Wednesday 29 April 15 11:49 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for the above who was the son of James Rosser and Elizabeth nee Ware, he was bapt at Newington Holy Trinity and went into the army in 1898 but seems to have deserted in 1901 but appears on the 1901 census at 49 Pocock St, St George the Martyr living with his widowed mother. Elizabeth passed in 1905 but after 1901 George also disappears. There is a George Rosser who emigrated to Canada aged 58 in 1936 but there is no mention of his middle initial.
Help please.

Rosser, Henderson, Chapman, Clarkson, Harper, Healey, Horth, Page, Bowers, Ritchie, Sheen, Smith and Weymark.

FindMyPast has two army files for him. It looks like he deserted twice. On the first occasion he returned to the army in mid-April 1901 (just after the census) and then he deserted again in June 1901.

http://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=gbm%2fwo363-4%2f007331075%2f00149&parentid=gbm%2fwo363-4%2f7331075%2f5%2f143

His 1878 baptism shows his residence then as Webber Row. That ties in with a George Robert Rosser who can be found in the 1911 census https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWPG-Z72

There is a WW1 army service record for him which I will look at next

The "WW1 service record" seems to be just a duplicate of the files on FindMyPast. It ends with the June 1901 desertion.

I noticed a George Robert Rosser in the Harrow electoral register for 1936 and a George R Rosser in registers for 1949-51

Hello Shaun,
Well done finding him on the 1911 census, I didn't find that on Ancestry, they probably took his age as 22.
Not sure about the electoral rolls but interestingly can't find Royston M or Blanche Shipman on records who were living at same number?

Royston married in Harrow in 1951,but not to Blanche-unless that's the name she was known by?
I used to live near there and my mum's best friend lived in the road just behind there.
It's in Rayners Lane.He died in Southend in 2001.

Found his bmd's now! I wondered if he was related or a friend of George but appears not.

Ancestry have him recorded as Rorrer in the 1911 census but have correct age. He is living with a Mrs Kate Osbourne, described as 'Friend'
