Rob M Ross
« on: Wednesday 29 April 15 16:53 BST (UK) »
Need help to find out who Rob M Ross is. On my great grandmothers marriage certificate one of the witnesses was Rob M Ross. Another thing is my ggrandmother met her husband in Elsburg were they both worked but they went to Cape Town to get married. They were married in a private house in Rondebosch and Ednam is the place mentioned as residence for Agnes Ross. The second witness is something Grant.  Could be M Grant.

Have attached the marriage certificate.

Thanks Karen

There is a death notice in the Cape Archives
MOOC   6/9/338   426   ROSS, ROBERT MCMILLAN. DEATH NOTICE.  1895 1895

Could be a possibility - if you get the notice you could perhaps find out if there was a relationship

Robert McMillan Ross could not have signed the marriage record as a witness because he was dead by the time Agnes got married. He did not have any sons, so who could it be?

The marriage looks to have taken place 1890 & Robert MacMillan's death was 1895?

Surname Grant is also a Scottish name

So it could be Robert that was a witness. Grant is the surname of Robert's one daughter who married Alexander Fraser Grant.

OK, so lets say these people are relatives of my Agnes Ross, at first I thought that Robert was Agnes's father. But I got information from Agnes's granddaughter that Agnes defiantly had brothers. namely George, Alexander and John.

Robert had sons but they died as babies leaving him with 5 daughters.

So my next idea was that Robert could be an uncle of Agnes Ross. Probably her fathers brother.

The only way to find that out is to find Robert's parents death notice's or some other proof of who their children were.
