Any info on Alfred Patrick Keating
« on: Friday 01 May 15 08:53 BST (UK) »
I am looking for info on the above person, his Birthplace is written as "Artry Resident County Kildare" in the English 1911 Census, he married Louisa Owen in 1872 in West Ham, was living in Bedminster Somerset in 1881, then in 1891 Portsea/Portsmouth, for the rest of his life, his probable death being in Q3 1920 in Portsmouth aged 73, his birth year on all census is given as 1848.
Thanks for any help,

Marriage certificate should hopefully list father's name and occupation.

Is this where you found his birthplace in 1911 census?

Birthplace is probably Athy not Artry- have a look at the original scanned image to confirm (think Ancestry or Find My Past have originals but we aren't allowed to do lookups for 1911 census on Rootschat).

I checked the original census (I use findmypast) and yes is is Athy, I submitted a correction to the site as well.
Thanks
I'll need to order the Marriage certificate then for the next step,
I assume that "Keating" is a fairly common name in Ireland, would anyone know if it originates in any particular county?

Fairly widespread name, with a lot of variations

Since you have Athy as the birthplace of Alfred then surely that should be your starting point to search for more information. Unfortunately he was born well before the start of civil registration so you'd need to check church records.

I now have his Marriage certificate and it lists his father as James Keating, occupation Clerk. Not found out anything further as yet.

You haven't mentioned his religion but the Catholic Parish registers are now online-

No idea of his religion, he married in a CofE Church, St Mary's Plaistow, which is no longer there, so not sure if the Parish Registers will help, but will have a look to see what I can find.
