I am also interested in Alfred Patrick Keating - in 1911 census he states that he was (resident) Athy, Kildare, Ireland as place of birth. Maybe he did not know his birthplace? Or maybe he grew up there as a young child? Alfred is an unusual name in Ireland. There is a John Keating born in 1848 in Kill, Kildare whose father is Pat Keating and mother is Rose Cruise- may have nothing to do Alfred Patrick. Could he have added Alfred to his name when he went to England? He married Louisa Owen and had 9 children one of whom is my grandmother. Can anyone help?

We have a common ancestor then, I am descended through his son Edward Owen Keating. If your saw earlier in this post his father is James, from the marriage certificate. I have not managed to find out anything more as yet.

FYI

There is a family living in the right area and at the right time that you could consider

James KEATING m Lucy MOORE Oct 28 1845 in Athy RC
both were from Nicholastown, Co. Kildare and unmarried

They had at least the following children:
Patrick bap Mar 28 1847; address Nicholastown, Athy
Mary bap Feb 17 1850; address Nicholastown, Athy
Catherine bap Jan 30 1853; address note as to "born in Bray", Athy
Peter bap Mar 04 1855; address Bray, Athy
James bap Oct 26 1856; address Bray, Athy
John bap Jan 09 1859; address Bray, Athy
Martin bap Sep 02 1860; address Bray, Athy

Link to the baptism record of Patrick KEATING
In light of his eldest daughter being named Lucy; I wonder did Alfred Patrick assume the name Alfred?

Unfortunately these records do not show James Keating's occupation

There are two deaths in ATHY district that maybe James and Lucy and worth investigating
Lucy KEATING 1873 Athy Q1 V3 P345 aged 75
James KEATING 1884 Athy Q3 V3 P207 aged 75
The death certificate might state James' occupation and help in matching for you

This is really interesting! I also had found Patrick Keating born 28th March 1847 and wondered could he have added Alfred when he went to England. I am descended from Edward Owen Keating's sister -Lucy Keating. Also interesting is the repeat of the name Lucy in the Irish family of the above Patrick Keating i.e. Patrick Keating named his first daughter after his mother which would certainly fit the picture! This is the best lead I have got into Alfred Patrick Keating's Irish roots and would be great if anyone knows anything more about the Keating family or descendants in Nicholastown, Athy.

I researched a family recently that had a lady from Kildare named Margaret

All references to her in England referred to her as Matilda and one as Matilda Marguerite
However there was enough supporting information to prove she was one in the same person, but nothing to indicate why she may have used the name Matilda!

My thanks as well, a good possible lead. The profession may not be true as both fathers were said to be clerks on the marriage certificate!
